Vintage Holiday Gift Guide | Sojourn

Can I be totally honest with you? I have some really cool friends.

The kind of friends who have an impeccable eye for style and design and carry around vintage shopping secrets so good that they can’t even tell you. They are the kind of friends who oh-so casually run an amazing vintage and handcrafted shop with products that people at Urban Outfitters would die to get their hands on, plus, they are just the loveliest humans on the planet. Sigh.

So, you can only imagine how delighted I am to have Amanda and Stephanie of Sojourn sharing their holiday picks on The Basic Goods (very) and before I give them the floor, a note about vintage.

While it can be intimidating or just plain uninteresting in comparison to fast, modern-day fashion, I urge you to consider purchasing gently-worn items. The fashion industry is one of the biggest culprits of waste and as consumers we are willing and sadly, blind accomplices.  Each year, the average American trashes about 80 pounds of clothing. Whether it’s simply just “cheap” or poorly-made we have gotten stuck in a cycle of not assigning proper value to the the things we own, and the strange truth is, the less expensive a product the higher the environmental cost — people, like factory workers, included.

When I get my hands on a vintage piece, whether from Sojourn or elsewhere, I am amazed at how it has lasted it so long. That it has made it into my hands to be worn for many years to come is something I marvel at even more. Your decision to purchase gently-worn items keeps it out of landfills and keeps our planet safe. Your decisions matters. Your dollars are your most powerful vote and hey, who doesn’t want to look cute while doing it? I know I sure wouldn’t mind…

Steph’s Picks

Mauve Knit Vest– Cold weather calls for layers! This hand-knit vest is the perfect addition to those old boyfriend jeans, a white t-shirt and bandana.

Brown Coffee Mugs- Everyone loves a good mug!  Stacking mugs are a great option, especially when space is tight.  This set of six 1970’s mugs are great for those holiday family brunches.

06A61423-C794-4733-9300-3DB42436B6E4Sweater Coat-  Keep cozy and warm this winter with this vintage sweater jacket.  This works great as just a coat or for layering on those blustery winter days.

Turquoise Wall Basket-  This wicker wall basket is perfect for organizing bathroom accessories, craft supplies or even to small potted herbs in your kitchen.

Amanda’s picks

258294FA-7044-4AC4-A2A9-A3376864708FMeditation Incense Kit – Rituals Incense is always burning in our homes. It keeps us calm and focused, and of course fills the air with a warming pine and citrus scent (smells like a bonfire inside!). The set includes 3 large palo santo incense sticks and 6 cedar ropes. Palo Santo means “Holy Wood” in Spanish, making this the perfect gift for someone into or in need of spiritual and energy cleansing and healing.

Southwestern Purse – This petite purse transcends seasons with style. We have come across some beautiful southwestern-inspired vintage pieces, but this is by far one of the most unique.

406FB2FA-0AC2-4C97-9690-85138179BA15Clay Earrings – Made exclusively for Sojourn and inspired by the colors of our home, where the ocean meets the woods, these earrings are truly one-of-a-kind. Made out of hand-rolled polymer clay in upstate New York by Hello Zephyr.

Right off the plane from Marrakesh, it’s hard to describe in detail just how beautiful and eye-catching these pillow cases are (plus, more colors to choose from!) but this one is our favorite. Perhaps it will inspire the recipient to take a trip to Africa — we can give some Marrakesh travel tips too 😉
